We have a special show today featuring vegan tacos made by Social Justice Advocate and Co-Founder of Vegans Against All Oppression V.A.A.O, Iye Bako. Iye shows us how to make some tasty tacos using Gardein plant-based crumbles. All you need is a good meat alternative and some of your favorite spices, and BAM…you’ve got some delicious vegan tacos for any day of the week.

Let’s Meet Our Incredible Chef…
Iye Bako is a founding advisory board member of Plant the Power 614 a local grassroots nonprofit organization that seeks to cultivate a caring plant-based community for People of Color that demonstrates unconditional love for ourselves, animals, and our world.
She is a graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature and International Business and is bilingual in Spanish. Iye is a social justice advocate and believes in fighting for total liberation for both humans and non-human animals. She’s passionate about racial justice issues and is co-founder of Vegans Against All Oppression (VAAO) a new social media platform connecting issues of human rights and animal oppression. She is originally from Nigeria, raised in the United States, and currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. In her free time, Iye takes up watching foreign language dramas and learning other languages.
It’s Vegan Taco Time My Friends!
Is it taco Tuesday? No, but tacos are for every day of the week, in my opinion. I eat them, seriously, every day. True story. So I am excited to try this new variation of vegan taco that Iye made for us. She used Gardein vegan crumbles, some Daiya cheese, and a whole lot of delicious spices to spruce up the plant-based crumble. Add her homemade pico de gallo, some vegan sour cream, some avocado, and Kaboom….you’ve got yummy tacos ready to eat. Let’s see how they turned out. And the recipe is posted below so you can make these at home too. So go buy the ingredients and get ready for some tacos!
- 1 bag of Gardien plant-based crumbles/or your favorite brand: I.e. Beyond Meat
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp onion or garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 2 TB diced red onion
- Garlic salt to taste
- Pico de gallo:
- 2 roma tomatoes diced
- Juice of half a lime
- 1/2 jalapeño deseeded
- 1 TB of diced red onion
- Garlic salt to taste
- Stir to combine
- Sauté onions with water until translucent add Gardien meat and seasonings and stir until well combined.
- Add the Gardien meat and pico de gallo to a tortilla top with vegan cheddar cheese, vegan sour cream of your choice and slices of avocado.
