BELTSVILLE, Md. (WJLA) — A D.C. watchdog group says the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been killing hundreds of kittens that could have been adopted. UPDATE — The USDA tells ABC7 News that the total number of kittens killed in toxoplasmosis research at the Maryland lab in past five years is:
- 2017 – 30 killed
- 2016 – 50 killed
- 2015 – 34 killed.
- 2014 – 44 killed
- 2013 – 63 killed
The USDA is still compiling the total number of kittens raised and killed in the project over its 40 years of operation.
